WHAT IS A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE?

Social enterprises are businesses that exist to do good.

They operate in all areas of our economy. They tackle social and environmental problems head-on. They enhance communities and create employment and training pathways.

They put planet and people before profit.

HOW DO THEY CREATE IMPACT?

There are three social enterprise impact models:

1. Community need

Social enterprises that have a social, cultural, or environmental purpose, offering products and services that are often unmet by the regular market.

2. Employment generating

Work Integrated Social Enterprises (WISEs) focus on creating employment and training opportunities for people who have significant barriers to mainstream employment.

3. Profit redistribution

Donate at least 50% of their revenue to charities or not-for profits that address basic unmet needs.
